
Our November conference will focus on promoting the value of Arts and Visual Literacy in School Libraries

We are delighted to have the following line up of speakers:
- Matthew Kelly, an Irish illustrator and storyteller from Balbriggan.
A graduate of NCAD, he explores themes of love, grief, and healing through visual narrative. His debut graphic novel Porter Loves Cleo is a poignant journey of emotional depth and resilience. Matthew’s work blends art and empathy, inviting readers to reflect and connect. - Dr. Jane O’Hanlon is President of IBBY Ireland and a member of IBBY’s international Executive Committee. She formerly led education at Poetry Ireland, shaping national outreach programmes. Jane holds advanced degrees in Children’s Literature, Women’s Studies, and Arts Education. A Fulbright Scholar, she champions literacy, inclusion, and creative learning worldwide.
- Mairead Duggan, has worked as a school librarian in a number of schools around the country setting up school libraries and creative arts programmes. Her research has focused on picturebooks and the process of ‘reading’ images and she regularly uses picturebooks as part of a programme of creative mindfulness with her students . She made the School Librarian of the Year Honour List in the UK in 2017.
- Robin Stewart, is the JCSP Librarian in Marino College, Dublin 3. He’s also a member of the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations’ Expert Group on Public Engagement, a Creative Connections Facilitator with the Shared Island Programme and a mentor and external evaluator with the European Cultural Foundation’s Europe Challenge.
- Lorna Vogelsang is the JCSP Librarian for CBS James Street, and has worked in various other school libraries in Dublin. She has a Masters in Science as well as a Masters in Library and Information Studies. She is a committee member for the School Libraries Group of the Library Association of Ireland; helps to run the Great Reads Award; is a reviewer for Children’s Books Ireland for non-fiction children’s books; and has won an international award for social media in a school library.
To wrap up, attendees will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and strategies for promoting visual literacy in their libraries..
