The Great Reads Award

The Great Reads Award is the highlight of our calendars. The ‘GRA’ as we know it, was set up in 2016 by a group of school librarians working in a variety of different second-level schools in Ireland. Their goal was to introduce students to a wide range of great new books.

The aim of the Great Reads Award is to highlight new authors (and this includes authors who are new to Young Adult and Teen Literature), and to diversify the reading of the young adults and young people we work with. It gives young people the opportunity to voice their opinions about the books they are reading, and to get enthusiastic about reading at a time of year when academic work and exams are less pressing.

For more information about the Great Reads Award, see its dedicated website.

The GRA is run by our own committee member Aileen Ivory, who is a school librarian in Loreto College, Dublin.

Congratulations to our latest winners and to all who made the shortlists.
